KTM Canada – Red Bull – THOR Race Team 250 riders Jacob Piccolo and Sebastien Racine had an outstanding weekend in Drumheller, Alberta, where they delivered an impressive pair of podium finishes at the second round of the 2022 Triple Crown Series. With three motos taking place on the DORVA MX track, both riders kept it consistent and fast throughout the day, giving the team an impressive 2-3 finish on the overall 250 Pro podium.

Securing second overall, Piccolo proved that he’s serious about defending his 2021 title as he came out strong in the opening moto with the early lead aboard his KTM 250 SX-F. He held onto the Moto 1 lead until halfway, where a mistake dropped him back to third, but he charged back late in the race to claim second. In the second moto, he once again shot off the line to capture the early lead and he held strong out front for most of the race before getting overtaken in the last two laps. Laying down the fastest lap of the entire race just before the checkers, Piccolo came through less than a second behind the leader for second. Finishing strong in the third and final moto, he charged into the lead on the second lap and rode flawlessly to come away with a six-second victory in the last bout.

With 2-2-1 finishes, Piccolo secured second overall and he maintains the early points lead after two rounds of racing.

Jacob Piccolo, KTM Canada – Red Bull – THOR Race Team 250 Rider: “The day was good for me, I went 2-2-1 for second overall. A couple little mistakes held me back from the overall, but the track was gnarly and I had tons of fun.”

Although he’s a rookie in the class, Sebastien Racine has jumped right into the mix early in the season. He grabbed a top-three start in the first moto and went to work battling for second later in the race, ultimately securing a solid third. In Moto 2, he got off the line inside the top-five and battled between fourth and fifth throughout the race. With two laps to go, Racine turned up the heat and made the pass to clinch fourth. In the third moto, he powered his KTM 250 SX-F off the line to capture his first holeshot and assumed the lead on the opening lap. After getting overtaken by his teammate on the second lap, Racine settled into third and he held steady for the rest of the race to claim a hard-fought third in the moto.

Finishing with 3-4-3 moto scores, the young rider secured a career-best third overall.

Sebastien Racine, KTM Canada – Red Bull – THOR Race Team 250 Rider: “It was a great round. We started the day qualifying P3 and then got a good start and finished third in Moto 1, I felt really good about that one. In Moto 2, I had another good start but couldn’t get the pace on the first two laps. I struggled a little bit and went fourth. In the last moto, I knew I had to beat Ryder [McNabb] and I got a great start with the holeshot and put my head down to get third. Overall podium for me in third place and really looking forward to next weekend!”

450 Pro
More unfortunate luck came through for 450 Pro rider Jess Pettis, who suffered a race-ending crash on the opening lap of the first moto. Pettis was evaluated on-site and it was determined that he would sit out for the remainder of the day and a further update will be provided this week.
