Red plate-holder Jess Pettis picked up his fourth 450 Pro Class overall victory of the 2024 Canadian Triple Crown Series at Riverglade on Sunday, trading moto wins with KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team teammate Josiah Natzke to claim 1-2 finishes at Round 6. Kaven Benoit reclaimed the 250 Pro red plate, while Eve Brodeur overcame adversity to keep herself in the WMX East title hunt.
Pettis powered his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION to 2-1 moto scores in Moncton, which saw him extend his advantage at the top of the premier class standings to eight points. He effectively doubled his lead through another consistent performance, with just two rounds remaining this season.
Jess Pettis, KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team 450 Rider: “P1 on the day for me with 2-1 moto scores! I’m happy to extend my points lead a bit and especially on a track I struggle with. I’m excited for Deschambault next weekend.”
450 Pro rookie Natzke was also impressive once again in winning the opening race, but fell in the early stages of Moto 2 and had to fight his way back to a fourth-place result. That enabled him to salvage second overall for the weekend, still keeping the pressure on teammate Pettis at this point in the series.
Josiah Natzke, KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team 450 Rider: “I felt awesome in the first moto, took a holeshot and win, so I was stoked. In the second moto, I made a silly mistake and took a digger early, then had to claw my way back to fourth. It was a fun day of racing and I’m excited for these last two.”
Riverglade was a positive day out for Kaven Benoit on his KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, finishing with 2-2 scores to importantly reclaim the points lead in the 250 Pro Class in P2 overall. The former champion has taken runner-up results across the past three rounds, also currently carrying an eight-point lead in the championship.
Kaven Benoit, KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team 250 Rider: “Moncton was a challenging round. I found myself on the ground in the opening lap of Moto 1, and charged back to second. Moto 2, I had a better start and fought hard with the leader and got another second. My results today bring the red plates back – home race up next!”
KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team WMX East title prospect Eve Brodeur endured her most difficult weekend of racing in 2024, finishing second in Moto 1, but dislocating her shoulder at the beginning of the final encounter. She bravely remounted and charged back to salvage P9, which positioned her P5 overall, and she is now four points outside of the series lead.
Eve Brodeur, KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team WMX 250 Rider: “It was a tough round for me with a second-place finish in the first moto, then a dislocated shoulder on the first lap of the second moto. We managed to put my shoulder back in place fast enough for me to salvage a few points. I’ve lost the red plate for now, but I’m only four points behind the leader, so I know what I have to do for our final round next weekend at my home race!”
