The KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team finished with a solid haul of points at Round 4 of the 2023 Canadian Triple Crown Series in the sands of Gopher Dunes on Sunday, with Ryder McNabb notching his third win in succession in the 250 Pro Class ahead of teammate Kaven Benoit, while Jess Pettis took P2 overall in the 450 Pro Class.
McNabb’s impressive 2023 form continued in Courtland, as the defending champion topped the timesheets in qualifying. A holeshot in the opening moto placed McNabb in the driver’s seat of the race, before a harsh fall on lap three relegated him to sixth. From that point, a hard charge through the field resulted in a comeback ride back to P2.
A measured effort in the second moto of the day saw McNabb cross the line in second position once again, which was enough to seal his third overall win in four rounds using consistency and extend his advantage in the championship to 10 points.
Ryder McNabb, KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team 250 Rider: “Today was a tough one for me, I had a pretty nasty crash there and hurt my shoulders, but we pushed through it and walked away with the overall for the day, which I’m stoked with. Onto more sand now at Sand Del Lee next weekend!”
250 Pro Class teammate Benoit continued to put heat on McNabb as they battle for this year’s championship, with the number 126 recording the fourth fastest time in qualifying. A fourth-place finish in the opening moto marked frustration for the former champion, before a resounding victory in moto two placed Benoit on the box in P2 for the day and provided a boost of confidence heading into the next round.
Kaven Benoit, KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team 250 Rider: “It was a tough first part of the day in the Dunes, but I’m very happy to turn things around and grab the win in the second moto. This was a good day overall, and now I’m looking forward to charging in the sand once again next weekend.”
450 Pro Class contender Pettis carried his momentum from a strong previous round to post the second-quickest qualifying time at Gopher Dunes. From there, a 2-3 moto scorecard amidst a couple of crashes was enough to finish second overall on the day and remain right in the championship hunt for the 2023 season.
Jess Pettis, KTM Canada Red Bull Race Team 450 Rider: “Challenging day at the Dunes here, with a couple crashes and a bit of adversity. P2 overall, I’m happy with how we are tracking, and now back to work this week to fine tune things for SDL!”
