The Effenbert-Liberty Racing Team, always proud to tout its family-like team camaraderie, showed a significant fracture today with uncertain consequences. In yet another vaguely translated press release, the Czech-owned, Italian-based team has announced that several crew members have defected from the team just days before this weekend’s Czech Republic Grand Prix at the Brno Circuit.
“The Liberty Racing Team would like to inform with regret that despite its will, an unsolvable break born from a misunderstanding between the mechanics and the administrative management of the team, revealed a bitter surprise at the arrival to the Brno Circuit. In fact several men of the technical crew have decided not to participate to the Czech Republic Grand Prix and to the rest of the championship. This defection sadly involves the French Rider Sylvain Guintoli who, without the technical support, does not take part to the race that is held in Brno this weekend.”
With Liberty unable to provide Guintoli a ride, the French ace (the most successful Liberty rider this year after a win at Assen) has announced his departure from the team. According to his official Twitter account, “Sylvain Guintoli, who had fulfilled all of his obligations is disappointed with Liberty’s difficulties and their inability to provide a bike for him at Brno but is now free to take up other rides with immediate effect.”
This all comes as a major shock, and it will be interesting to see how this weekend unfolds and what it means for the rest of the promising team’s eni World Superbike Championship season, especially for Canadian Brett McCormick, who is expected to be returning to action in August at Silverstone.
