Clarksville, Indiana-based GPtech confirmed today that it has secured a wildcard grid spot and will compete in the MotoGP class at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix on August 17-19 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The performance parts importer/distributor has contracted Mississauga-based BCL Motorsports to design a billet aluminum frame, while technical partner Vesrah Suzuki/MCJ Motorsports will be in charge of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 engine that will power the bike. It is only the second CRT bike to be announced for the Indy race.
“The new CRT rules have allowed us the freedom to develop a complete program that is worthy of being on the Moto GP grid,” stated Geoff Maloney, team manager and owner of GPtech LLC. “A big thanks goes out to everyone behind the scenes helping!” While the project has been in the works since January, details were kept quiet until a grid spot was guaranteed. A short list of submitted acceptable riders is soon to follow.
“Being able to develop a Suzuki GSX-R1000 engine under the CRT rules of MotoGP is a huge opportunity and I look forward to building a competitive engine package,” added Vesrah Suzuki/MCJ Motorsports owner Mark Junge.
Inside Motorcycles will provide more details, including a rider announcement, when more information becomes available.
