@cdnsuperbike • @CalabogieMotors • (June 17, 2015)- This past weekend, Trevor Daley debuted the Parts Canada/Suzuki Canada GSX-R 1000 at round one of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship.
Trevor, having been involved in a severe crash the previous Saturday that resulted in broken bones in both hands, and being unable to ride one of the damaged OneSpeed Racing Suzukis , made for a challenging weekend indeed. The weekend ran on a mix of determination, energy and momentum built throughout the offseason and from the many great partners supporting
Trevor’s 2015 race season.
After being unable to take part in any pre-race test sessions, and with official CSBK Friday practice sessions being blanketed by a rain storm, Trevor took to the track Saturday morning for what was essentially his first time on either of the bikes this year.
Trevor was able to qualify tenth to advance to the Magneti Marelli Superpole where, unfortunately, a broken chain on his first lap ended his session and broke the engine case. Trevor, along with help from people including Jeff Bloor (Riders Choice) and the team of Amateur rider Alexander Cleary, changed the motor.
Going third quickest in Sunday morning’s practice was what Trevor had felt he was capable of doing in Saturdays qualifying. The Suzuki engine he and the team installed was internally outfitted with Yoshimura RnD parts from Parts Canada, attributing to his added speed.
Trevor had a great start in the feature race moving up to 6th on the first lap. “I ran a smart race conserving my hands, and the tire, having chosen a soft Dunlop rear for the main event,” he said. “I could see the two riders ahead of me the entire race and had a feeling that late in the race I would be able to catch them.” As the laps counted down, Trevor’s strategy started to show as he started catching the fourth and fifth place riders at a rapid pace. Unfortunately the late race charge was cut short when Trevor and another rider made contact in the second-last turn. Trevor remounted, with no further injury due to his HJC helmet and Alpinestars leathers, crossing the line in 12th position and walking away from round one with championship points and one off week to heal and regroup.
Trevor and OneSpeed Racing are grateful of the support from the fans and from those throughout the paddock, and can’t wait to get back on the podium for Parts Canada, Suzuki Canada, Yoshimura Research and Development USA, Rockstar Energy Canada, Alpinestars, HJC Helmets, Great Gulf, Hero Demo, Core Excavation, Dunlop tires and Moto-mod suspension by Cornwell.
