Hello everyone, sorry to be getting my race report to you so late. I just got home from the races in the west a few days ago!
JULY 5: Hagerstown, MD – Hagerstown is my favourite race track and I always look forward to the Grand National there. I finished fourth there last year and my goal was to get on the box for this years race. Through qualifying I was hovering around the 10th position and finally ending up 12th overall. I had a pretty stacked heat but it was going to be good to see where the pace was up front. I ended up third with a direct transfer into the main. I got a decent start in the main, but seventh is as close as I could get to the front, almost nabbing Jake Johnson at the line for sixth place.
JULY 12: Welland, ON – On a weekend off from the Grand National series I hit up our local short track to take on the best Canadians! The last couple years I’ve been feeling awesome at Welland and I wanted to win again to build some confidence to take with me on my big trip out west. Pulled the ‘ol girl out of the truck and I was fast from the first lap of practice! I was able to win both the Pro classes and take the loot that would help me get to my next bunch of races!
JULY 19: Grays Harbor, WA – Grays Harbor was a new track for everyone on the tour and would prove to be a tricky little circle. The track was fairly small and the area had got a lot of rain and the track was very tacky. I didn’t feel great in qualifying and ended up 12th. I missed the main event transfer by a spot in my heat but I felt like I was riding a lot better. I got the holeshot in the semi and led most of the race but ended up second to transfer into the main. It was a long 25-lapper: trying to not make mistakes and be as smooth as possible and I wound up tenth. I was ok finishing with a top ten and getting out of there unscathed!
JULY 26: Sacramento, CA – The big mile in Sacramento. I’ve always struggled at Sac and I wanted to better my results from past years. The track was a bit different this year because the track crew could not use calcium in the dirt which means the track would probably be drier than usual and may have a smaller groove than normal. I was slow through qualifying but I knew the track would change a lot after sunset. I picked it up in my heat race but missed the transfer by a couple spots. I had cut some good laps in the last few laps on my heat and knew I could be in contention to win my semi, which I did! In the final I was running about mid-pack trying to make my way forward but the track was so narrow it made it hard to use different lines on the track. I ended up 12th on the night, it was a tough track to pass I wasn’t happy with 12th but at least I had some good confidence as we headed to Castle rock.
AUGUST RACES
Aug. 1 – Castle Rock short track
Aug. 2 – Castle rock TT
Aug. 5 – Rapid City
Aug. 8 – Indy Mile
Aug. 23 – London
Aug. 30 – Springfield short track
Aug. 31 – Springfield Mile
