In addition to several updated models for the 2017, BMW Motorrad unveiled three brand-new bikes at EICMA in Milan, Italy on Thursday, October 10: The G310GS, HP4 Race and R nineT Urban G/S.
The G310GS is the newest member of the GS dual sport family and employs the 313 cc single-cylinder engine from the newly-released G310R street model. Designed to stay true to the authentic dual-sport traits of the rest of the GS family, the G310GS comes with a 19-inch front wheel, extended spring travel and classic GS styling (with nose beak). BMW considers this an introductory bike for the entire GS range.
Carried over from the G310R is the rearward-tilted liquid-cooled engine with ‘backwards’ cylinder head (intake at the front, exhaust at the rear). The engine makes 34 hp and 21 ft-lb of torque. ABS is standard and the bike weighs 169.5 kg (373 kg) wet. Canadian pricing and arrival are TBA.
BMW calls its just-announced HP4 Race the most exclusive model in BMW Motorrad history. “The HP4 Race will feature a full carbon fibre main frame and carbon fibre rims,” stated Stephan Schaller, president of BMW Motorrad. “We will reveal more about this model next spring.” No further details were revealed, but the bike is clearly based on the S1000RR superbike, features carbon fibre in the bodywork and comes with an Akrapovic exhaust system. The bike will be released in 2017 as a 2018 model and will be available in Canada.
Based on the successful R nineT model introduced in 2013, the new R nineT Urban G/S is brimming with retro character. An homage to the original R80G/S of 1980, the new Urban G/S goes old school with classic paint and styling, including replica graphics, a high mudguard, fork gaiters, enduro-style mirrors, classic headlight shroud and tan seat. Block-pattern tires and wire wheels are among the available options. ABS is standard.
The R nineT Urban GS is expected in Canada in June. Pricing will be announced in November.
