Ethan Barkley had a determined focus heading into the third event of the 2014 CMDRA Season at Northern Lights Raceway in Fort St. John, BC. He was significantly back in the championship points and knew he needed a win in order to have a chance for a No. 1 plate come September.
A rule change went through since the last event which now means the Pro Street class has an option to run a 7″ slick. This was in response to the less than stellar grip levels at many of the tracks in the past. This tire change is meant to offer the riders increased safety as well as more consistent performance so that they can tune better and ultimately put on a better show for the fans.
Right out of the gate the new tire option was helping all the Pro Street pilots at Northern Lights Raceway with Ethan jousting back and forth with rival Rob Aston for top spot in Saturday’s qualifying. Ethan was on top until the final round, and Rob just edged out a .02 second lead, his 7.74 to Ethan’s 7.76. Even though Rob had won the battle, the war was far from over.
Barkley pored over the data all evening in order to come up with a winning tune for Sunday. In the morning test session he posted an amazing 7.69 / 181 pass, to date the quickest Pro Street pass ever at this venue. In the final run of the day Ethan found that extra bit of power and was able to shatter that previous run with a stellar 7.57 / 182 to take the win.
