While variable valve timing has been a hot topic over the last few weeks with the introduction of the updated GSX-R1000 featuring Suzuki's innovative mechanical VVT system, many companies are working toward the next step in this area: eliminating camshafts completely and controlling the valves directly using electromagnetic actuators. There are many stumbling blocks to electromagnetic valve actuation (EVA), but a research group in the Control and Automation Laboratory of the University of British Columbia has created a new type of actuator that may make EVA a very realistic option in the not-too-distant future.

Coming off his recent win at Northern Lights Raceway two weeks ago, Ethan Barkley had high hopes for even better times at the Blackjack's Roadhouse Prairie Nationals held at Castrol Raceway, Edmonton, AB. The event started off on the right foot as Barkley cruised to a smooth opening pass of 7.64/180 mph on the EB Speed turbocharged Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Ethan Barkley had a determined focus heading into the third event of the 2014 CMDRA Season at Northern Lights Raceway in Fort St. John, BC. He was significantly back in the championship points and knew he needed a win in order to have a chance for a No. 1 plate come September.

A rule change went through since the last event which now means the Pro Street class has an option to run a 7" slick. This was in response to the less than stellar grip levels at many of the tracks in the past. This tire change is meant to offer the riders increased safety as well as more consistent performance so that they can tune better and ultimately put on a better show for the fans.

Ethan Barkley arrived at the Northern Lights Raceway in second place in the 2013 CMDRA Championship points race. The bike has been working well but a string of bad luck and technical glitches has hampered this year’s results. Ethan was hopeful that his luck was about to turn around.

At the 2013 CMDRA season kicked off at N'Lakapxm Eagle Motorplex near Ashcroft, BC, thirteen-time Champion Ethan Barkley came into the event with nothing more than a bike that idled. The last four months had been spent designing and building one of the most state-of-the-art Pro Street turbo systems on the market. Taking on such a task was a massive undertaking and it came down to the final hours before the GSX-R1000 dubbed 'Eleanor' was up and running. But she was far from race ready.

Kevin Schwantz to race Suzuka 8-Hour!

Former 500cc GP World Champion Kevin Schwantz is to make his international racing comeback this year at the Suzuka 8-Hour World Endurance Championship second round in Japan.

The 48-year-old, who clinched the 1993 World Championship aboard his #34 Lucky Strike RGV500 Suzuki, will race a GSX-R1000 in a three-rider Suzuki team set-up by Yukio Kagayama that also includes former MotoGP, WSB and BSB rider Noriyuki Haga.

Barkley Sets Canadian Pro Street Record

Calgary's Ethan Barkley made history at the CMDRA's most recent round at Mission Raceway Park, becoming the quickest Canadian Pro Street racer in history after a 7.505-second quarter-mile lap at over 187 mph.

The cool, dense sea level air at Mission combined with a smooth sticky racing surface allowed Barkley to finally begin turning up the boost on his turbocharged Suzuki GSX-R1000. Out of the box in early testing Saturday the bike ran a nice clean 8.0 at a mere 170 mph with a mild "off the trailer" tune. After a soft 7.7@185 in the first qualifying session, Barkley made some slight chassis adjustments and the engine tune was left the same. The Gixxer, dubbed 'Eleanor' shot off the line with the front tire hovering above the track. The result was a historic 7.505 @ 187. Barkley couldn't go quicker in the final qualifying session.

GPtech To Run Headlining MotoGP Class at Red Bull Indianapolis GP

Clarksville, Indiana-based GPtech confirmed today that it has secured a wildcard grid spot and will compete in the MotoGP class at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix on August 17-19 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The performance parts importer/distributor has contracted Mississauga-based BCL Motorsports to design a billet aluminum frame, while technical partner Vesrah Suzuki/MCJ Motorsports will be in charge of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 engine that will power the bike. It is only the second CRT bike to be announced for the Indy race.
