This week IM visited Austin, Texas to test the all-new 2018 Honda Gold Wing. Completely redesigned from the ground up, this is the first major update of Honda's flagship touring machine since the introduction of the GL1800 in 2001. As I circulate the fast, long sweeping turns of the Blue Ridge Parkway at speeds that shall not be named for risk of incriminating myself, I smirk as I realize that I’m on a bagger not a sport bike. Simply put, you can corner with confidence at the same speed as most other baggers top out.

Kawasaki has given the Versys-X 300 somewhat of an identity crisis. The all-new 2017 model is positioned as a street bike, and is listed as such on Kawasaki’s Canadian website. But then there are the dirt-leaning dual sport looks, and the marketing imagery of the bike being ridden in the dirt and splashing through mud. You’d be forgiven for being as perplexed as I was about who exactly this motorcycle is intended for.

For the international launch of its fresh, youthful 2017 Rebel 300 and 500 models, Honda chose the oceanfront neighbourhood of Venice Beach, California. The vibrant location, what with its trendy restaurants, cafés and free-spirited community, served as the perfect backdrop for the exciting new Rebel series.

For the international launch of its flagship new adventure model, the 2017 1290 Super Adventure R, KTM picked the desert landscape of Paracas, Peru, four hours south of the capital city Lima. The desert terrain doesn’t reflect what we typically encounter here in Canada, but with this region having hosted Dakar stages in 2012, we knew that there were going to be excellent opportunities to test the off-road capabilities of the R version of the 1290 Super Adventure.

Triumphs in Daytona: Riding the Bobber, Scrambler and Street Triple RS (with photo gallery)

Last week I had the good fortune of checking a few things off my life's to-do list in a very short period of time. I went to Daytona Beach during Bike Week, visited the legendary Daytona International Speedway for the first time, watched an AMA national flat track race (the season-opening Daytona TT), met a Daytona 200 winner ('72 victor Don Emde) and got to ride the all-new and highly anticipated 2017 Triumph Bonneville Bobber.

Oh, and I also got to test the revised Street Scrambler and the dangerously awesome 2018 Street Triple RS. Not a bad set of accomplishments for 48 hours in Florida!
