To be totally honest, my first track day of 2016 started out as a complete disappointment. I arrived at Castrol Raceway's road course confident and ready to ride, having just successfully completed Justin Knapik's On Track Performance Race School less than 24 hours earlier. In seemingly no time at all, my intermediate group received a five-minute warning, and in the time that it takes to start your bike, put on your helmet and gloves and line up, I was out on the track.

At the final rounds of this year's Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship series, held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Dunlop offered qualifying tires to the top 10 riders for a separate, 15-minute final qualifying session. This was new for many of the competitors, as qualifying tires have not been used in the series for several years. Jeff Williams was one of the riders in the top-10 session, and I was able to get some data from the Accelerated Technologies Honda CBR1000RR that he was riding for the weekend.

Launched two years ago as two brand new models – aimed to provide user-friendly motorcycles that were both affordable to buy and run while proving an attractive, enjoyable proposition for a wide variety of riders. For 2014, an extra 75cc capacity was added to the liquid-cooled, SOHC 8-valve parallel twin-cylinder engine thanks to a bore increased 4mm to 77mm. Stroke remains at 80mm, as does compression ratio of 10.7:1. Both power and torque curves are considerably stronger throughout the entire rev-range.

Honda outlines CBR250R National Series program; age restriction lifted

Honda has renewed its support of the Honda CBR250R Series for 2013, a program that introduces riders to motorcycle road racing. In a big move (and hopefully a welcome one in terms of bike counts), the previous year's age restriction will be lifted and riders of all ages will be allowed to compete.

"Honda recognizes the need to develop younger riders and, at the same time, recognizes that others above the previous age cap are also enthusiastic about racing the CBR250R," said a statement from Honda Canada.
