@CastrolRaceway • Edmonton, AB (July 6, 2015)- The Edmonton Motorcycle Racing Association staged rounds three and four of their 2015 Honda Extreme Alberta Regional motorcycle roadracing Championship Series at Castrol Raceway July 4 and 5, and local aces proved that they are ready to face the Nation’s top riders next weekend at the debut of the Mopar CSBK National tour at the same venue.
In Sunday’s Riverside Motorsports Expert Superbike Feature race, reigning EMRA Champ Justin Knapik of Edmonton battled all-out with unretired Mike Zottmann of Calgary throughout the ten lapper. Both Pros were mounted on 1000cc Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja Superbikes.
Echo Cycle and Dunlop backed Knapik lead early, while Zottmann worked his way through the lead group aboard his Bow Cycle and Vortex supported entry. By mid-race, they were trading position for the point in the western, technical section of the year old, 13 turn (with the addition of the new “Bus Stop”) Castrol road course. On the penultimate lap, Zottmann used traffic to his advantage, pulling clear to win from Knapik, usual front runner Ian Wall (Suzuki GSX-R1000) and impressive rookie Pro Shane Caravan (Yamaha YZF-R1).
On Saturday, the feature race for round three of the Double Header weekend was won by the Accelerated Technology Blue Streak Racing Honda of Jodi Christie of Keene, ON. The reigning Mopar CSBK Pro National Champion was making his debut at the circuit in preparation for the upcoming National races July 11 and 12. After suffering a crash in turn four in practice, Christie just held off the battling duo of Knapik and Zottmann.
Christie opted to skip Sunday’s Regional race action, instead seeking attention to his clutch hand, injured in the practice fall. The 22 year old National Champ indicated that he was satisfied with knowledge gained in his Castrol debut, and expects to be ready for action when official practice begins at the same track on Thursday, July 9.
2015 Mopar CSBK National Championship Pro Superbike series Championship points’ leader Jordan Szoke arrived in Edmonton with his Mopar Express Lane BMW S1000RR in time to watch the Regional races at Castrol today, but did not compete.
In the EMRA’s Honda Extreme sponsored Expert 600 Superbike race, Mike Yurko took the win aboard his Yamaha YZF-R6 after a heated battle for first against the Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja of Neil Carlson. Mid-race, Carlson crashed out of the fight in turn four and was unable to continue.
