Montreal racer Dan Kruger is recovering at his US home in Atlanta following a serious crash during practice for the legendary Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race on July 23 at Japan’s Suzuka circuit. Kruger highsided while racing a GSX-R1000 for a Suzuki-based squad and suffered multiple injuries during the crash, during which he lost consciousness.

Kruger suffered a punctured lung, damaged ribs and right hand, a broken collarbone and head injuries that will prevent him from resuming regular activities for the time being. Those head injuries are the current focus of his medical team.

“I highsided and landed on track, and slid unconscious down the track,” said Kruger in an email to Inside Motorcycles editor Graeme Jones. “The bike was completely destroyed and my leathers were scraped on all four corners front and back, so it must have been big. Too bad I was knocked out and missed the show.”

While the length of his recovery period has yet to be determined, Kruger is hopeful for a return to racing in September, when a road race in Germany and two Chinese Superbike races are on his schedule. “I am quite confident all will be fine in a few months,” he summarized.

Inside Motorcycles will post more details as the come available. Safe healing, Dan!
