Reigning Canadian Superbike Champion Brett McCormick was slated to have surgery on his injured thumb today at his home hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Injured during race two on April 22 at round three of the eni Superbike World Championship Series at Assen in the Netherlands, McCormick returned to Canada via private medical transport on Friday, April 27.

The twenty year old Liberty Racing Team Effenbert Ducati pilot then spent Friday night in hospital in Saskatoon, where further tests confirmed the his broken vertebrae would not require surgery.  However ,his broken right thumb would need surgical repair. McCormick was able to spend Saturday and Sunday at home prior to his scheduled return to hospital today for work on his crucial right hand.

As far as a potential return to the race track, McCormick’s serious neck injury will require regular re-evaluation, and once that area is sufficiently mended, Brett can began physio therapy in preparation for a return to action.  Brett’s high level of fitness will play a key role in his ongoing recovery, although no time frame is in place for a specific date and venue.

Inside Motorcycles will continue to remain in touch with Brett and his family and provide periodic updates on the young rider’s recovery progress.
