The 2014 edition promises to be another weekend to remember with many features designed to celebrate the Adventure Rider lifestyle.
Once again, the Mohawk Inn and Toronto West KOA Campground in Campbellville, Ontario will host the OAR. Owners Shawn and Bridget Saulnier have taken an active role in the promotion of this important event on the Mohawk’s annual calendar.
Headlining the list of personalities scheduled to appear at the OAR is actor, rider and comedian, Jonny Harris. Best known for his role as Constable George Crabtree in CBC’s Murdoch Mysteries, Jonny is a life-long motorcyclist. He will act as host for both Friday and Saturday evenings’ entertainment. Jonny is being presented by Honda Canada and will be riding the new Honda NC750X.
Back for 2014 is author, tour operator and all-round good guy Rene Cormier, who will speak about his four-year tour around the world. Rene’s Saturday evening talk features his stunning photography and his interesting take on life and travel. Rene’s presence at the OAR is made possible by Dual Sport Plus.
Presented by BMW Canada, UK-based Simon Pavey will once again make his way across the Atlantic to ride the OAR, meet and greet his new Canadian friends and speak about his life in adventure motorcycling. Simon has participated in the famous Dakar Rally nine times and runs the UK BMW GS Training centre.
Warren Milner has a long and storied career in motorcycling, from road racer to world motorcycle traveller to product manager. His presentation last year was captivating and offered insight into the complex motorcycle industry. Once again Warren will fill in the blanks and answer the most soughtafter questions based on his years of experience as an industry insider. Warren is being presented by the Mohawk Inn.
Patrick Beaule is Canada’s Dakar veteran and a highly experienced off-road rider. He is a multi-time champion, vastly experienced, and has a great story to tell. In 2013 Patrick became the first Canadian to finish the Dakar Rally on both a motorcycle and in a car, having completed the Dakar as a co-driver in 2012. Now Patrick is headed back to Dakar with the Aldo Racing team for 2015. He will take time out from his schedule to tell his story at the OAR Saturday evening. Patrick will be riding the new KTM 1290 Super Duke R and is presented by the Overland Adventure Rally.
The riding aspect of the OAR format has been changed slightly for this year. The roads are same in most cases, the route will cover about 200 km and encompass the best roads Southern Ontario has to offer. The challenge of the OAR will be to find locations of clues along the route that will be indicated in the road book and on GPS track. In order to solve the Mohawk Mystery Challenge, participants will need to find all the clues and use skill, intelligence and a little ingenuity to win one of the many valuable prizes donated by the numerous OAR sponsors.
Other features of the OAR 2014 include onsite camping at the Toronto West KOA campground, a vintage motorcycle display, industry expo with displays, excellent Mohawk Chop House meals available, all in the perfect setting of the Mohawk Inn grounds.
