After missing round three of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship, Trombino Racing has been busy preparing the Aprilia RSV4-Factory superbike for the doubleheader at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this weekend.
After rider Frank Trombino suffered a broken thumb from a high-side during qualifying at round two of the national Superbike series at Autodrome St-Eustache in early July, the team regrouped and worked hard to prepare the bike for competition. Trombino showed why he is called ‘The Warlord’, working his way up through the field to finish a respectable fourth.
The upcoming Mopar Canadian Superbike rounds at CTMP give the team a chance for redemption. Trombino is very fast at the legendary circuit near Bowmanville, Ont., having won back-to-back Superbike nationals there in 2000 and 2001. Despite giving up 25hp on the competition he cannot be counted out. His endurance has always been excellent and with the support of Performance Drink, it will be second to none this time out.
“The focus for us will be giving Frank the best we can with what we have,” said crew chief James Collins. “We can set-up the bike to give Frank maximum tractability to allow him to put the power down first, and thanks to the Bazzaz Traction Control we will be able to maximize the Pirelli slicks. We have been very lucky to have support from all over the world. MWR air filters have developed some very new and exciting filter designs to help improve the RSV4’s top speed while increasing mid-range power.”
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Mike Peters of Royal Plumbing Services (www.royalplumbingtoronto.com) and Frank DaSilva of FDS Racing the Aprilia has undergone all of the modifications to transform the machine from a street legal stock bike to a competitive superbike. Without their generous support the team would not have been able to compete in CSBK action on the famed Italian motorcycle.
Trombino Racing has been competing to raise awareness and funds for Testicular Cancer Canada. Collins was diagnosed with the disease in April and is set to undergo major surgery at the end of the month. While testicular cancer is largely curable, early detection is vital. Trombino Racing will have its usual donation box at CTMP this weekend. Donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt and for each donation of $10 Trombino Racing is offering a free pair of MyPakage underwear (www.mypakage.com). This premium men’s underwear retails at $25/pr plus tax but has been generously donated by MyPakage to support the awareness/fund raising efforts.
“Royal Plumbing is proud to be partnered up this year with Trombino Racing,” Peters said. “It’s a great thing Frank is doing, coming out of retirement to support and raise awareness for testicular cancer. This is a new venture for Royal Plumbing and we are excited to be doing it alongside the great people at the Trombino camp.”
“Having Mike and Frank join us has been a life-saver. They have worked so hard to get everything together in a short period of time,” said team rider Frank Trombino. “Without them I’m not sure if we would have been able to showcase the Aprilia.”
Trombino Racing would also like to thank Jeff Gehrs of BrakeTech USA for his dedication and hard work to build the rotors requested. After initial testing the brakes were a major concern for the team but Gehrs agreed to develop a cast iron rotor that fell within the CSBK rulebook guidelines.
Trombino Racing is sponsored by Royal Plumbing Services, FDS Racing, MWR race filters, Performance Drink, GB race covers, Vortex, Track Side Cuts, Moto-Mod Suspension, Brake Tech rotors, Blue Streak Racing, Bazzaz, Pirelli, Draft Picks, Hindle and Acme Slate.
