Belleville, ON (August 10, 2015)- Tyler Seguin was the big winner at the Norm Carr Classic at the Belleville Fairgrounds in Belleville, ON on August 8.
The young Welland, ON rider beat all comers in the Expert Open class in an action-filled, 15-lap final that saw former No. 1 plate holder Donald Taylor jump out to an early lead. Seguin, in the second position, stayed on Taylor’s back wheel until the midpoint of the race before making his move into the lead. By the time the checkered flag was aired out, Seguin held a commanding lead over the former champion for the win.
The hardest charger of the contest award would have to go to Dominic Beaulac. The Becancour, QC racer ended his seven-year racing hiatus with an impressive third place finish. Beaulac jumped out to an early lead but saw his good start wasted when he was penalized for a questionable jump-start. After starting from the back of the pack on the race re-start, Beaulac drove hard to make his way up to third, and had he a couple of more laps at his disposal, would certainly have been able to challenge Taylor for second. In a close fourth was Mike LaBelle, with fifth going to Chris Evans.
Seguin also took the win in the 450 Expert class, in much the same manner as before. He spotted Donald Taylor an early advantage, then swept in for the victory in a final-corner pass that had the packed grandstand fans on their feet. Chris Evans took the final step of the podium after a lengthy battle with Dave Pouliot. Fred Duchesneau rode to a respectable fourth place finish.
In Intermediate Open action, William Bellerose was dominant in the win over Dustin Lambert and Shane Corbeil. In Intermediate 450 action Bellerose once again was first at the checkered, chased to the finish by Welland riders Lambert and Corbeil.
Hall of Fame legend John Kehoe entertained the crowd aboard his speedway bike. Lofting the front wheel along the entire back straight, the popular Welland champion took the win ahead of Terry Rideout rode to second place.
The Veteran class was also entertaining as John Parker took a hard-earned win over Les Washburn, riding out of Clarence, NY. Local rider Dave Gill finished in third just ahead of Rick Gunby.
