Flat Track Canada Heads to Welland County Speedway for Round 2

(June 01, 2016)- Hope you are ready for round 2 at Welland County Speedway.  The Flat Track Canada team heads down to Welland on June 3 for a day full of action packed racing. 

Gates and registration opens at 1pm.  Registration will close at 3pm.

Practice starts at 4pm with heats starting at 5pm. Followed by opening ceremonies at 7pm.

Woodstock Raceway Race Report

The 2017 Flat Track Canada series got underway on May 20th with the opening round taking place on the half mile at the Woodstock Fairgrounds. Despite the track crew struggling to keep moisture in the track as they battled high winds, the energetic crowd on hand was treated to some great racing in every class.

Open Expert looked like it was shaping up to be a battle between Brodie Buchan and Don Taylor as each rider had won their respective heats. When it came time to line up for the final however, Taylor found himself lining up on the back row after having to switch bikes before the race. When the light flashed green, Buchan nailed the holeshot on his Honda Canada/Kurt Biegger racing CRF 450 while the rest of the pack took off in pursuit. Charging from the back row Taylor looked like a man on a mission as he picked riders off seemingly with ease on his way toward the front. Taylor made it as high as fourth at one point before he started to drop off a little. This allowed Chris Evans to close the gap on Taylor and Evans eventually made the pass for fourth relegating Taylor to fifth.

While Buchan cruised along out front, the real battle was going on for second between John Parker Racing’s Dave Pouliot and visiting New York rider Justin Jones. These two spent the entire race swapping positions five or six times every lap while almost making contact numerous times. When the red flag came out on lap ten because of a single rider incident in turn four, Buchan was awarded the win with Jones barely edging out Pouliot for second place.

DTX Expert once again turned into the Brodie Buchan show as he grabbed another holeshot and never looked back. As the lonely Buchan ran out front, the action behind him was fierce with Taylor ending up in the grass exiting turn two at one point. When the dust finally settled, Buchan had again grabbed the checkers with Jones coming in second and 14-year-old rookie Expert Dallas Daniels having a great race to finish third.

Jarrett Phibbs grabbed the early lead in Open Intermediate but soon found himself under fire as the hungry pack chased him into turn three. The battle for the lead waged on for a couple of laps before Luke Rahm put the Jeff Wigfield Trucking/SPH Motorsports 450 into the point position. As Rahm enjoyed his lead, Phibbs now found himself fighting tooth and nail with Kyler Adams for second. Rahm crossed the line first for the victory while Adams finally came out on top in the battle for second over Phibbs.

Intermediate DTX saw Phibbs again win the drag race into turn one on his SPH Motorsports Honda 450. Lap one saw multiple riders fighting for the lead as the bikes entered turns three and four and a duel erupted between Phibbs and Rahm. These two went at it for a bit before Rahm was able to separate himself after Phibbs almost went over the high side in between turns three and four. Rahm ended up taking the checkers, while Phibbs held off Honda Canada/Kurt Biegger Racing rookie intermediate rider Jimmy Mccullough who settled for third.

Luke wasn’t the only Rahm to pose for photos in Victory Lane. Ty Rahm had a superb day and took the checkers in both Open Novice and DTX Novice.
