The Bridgestone Canadian Superbike Championship support classes concluded round two with plenty of intrigue on Sunday, as a number of riders earned crucial results for their various title fights to end the weekend, presented by Southwest Marine & Powersports.
The most decisive was in the AIM Insurance Amateur Superbike class, where Goran Radisic took his second win of the season in changing conditions at Grand Bend.
Radisic took advantage of the damp but drying track to put some distance between himself and Denis Giguere, who was equally clear of race one winner Tyler Brewer in third.
That will extend Radisic’s title lead to 15 points for the PMR BMW team, while fellow title rival Tyrone Tavares saw his chances continue to slip away in fourth.
Laurent Laliberte-Girard claimed a much-needed victory in the EBC Brakes Amateur Sport Bike category, putting plenty of early pressure on race one winner Andrew Alcampado before Alcampado crashed out on lap six.
That proved to be a massive swing in the championship, as it promoted Laliberte-Girard to his second win of the season and to within just a single point of Serge Boyer, who finished second. Giguere would complete the podium in third.
Ryan Beattie took another outright victory in the Super Sonic Road Race School Pro-Am Lightweight class, and a massively important one as title rival Zaim Laflamme crashed out.
Beattie has won every amateur split this season and this time fended off pro Gary McKinnon, who finished second overall but was the winner in his division after a battle between the youngest (Beattie) and oldest (McKinnon) riders in the paddock.
Laflamme’s crash promoted Cole Alexander to second amongst amateurs and lifted Grant Nesbitt into third, ballooning Beattie’s title lead to 42 points. As for McKinnon, the victory extended his lead in the pro ranks to 33 points over Jacob Black, who took second amongst pro’s ahead of Toni Sharpless.
Mack Weil’s perfect run in the Niagara Race Crafters Ninja ZX-4RR Cup came to an end, as he crashed and remounted to finish second. That allowed veteran Dave Walker through to score a popular victory in the pro ranks, while Rob Lepp added another amateur win over Adolfo Silva.
Craig Atkinson returned to his winning ways in the Importations Thibault Pro-Am Twins class, narrowly losing out to J.P. Tache on-track but being promoted to the victory after Tache was penalized for failure to obey series officials prior to the race.
Tache would drop three positions to fourth due to the penalty, allowing Justin Marshall through to second and Dallas Reynolds into third. Vincent Wilson kept his perfect run intact in the amateur split, dominating once again from Sebastian Silva and Julia Krans.
