Team Hindle Race Report from CSBK Rounds 6 & 7‏

@HindleExhaust • @cdnsuperbike • August 20, 2015 (Port Perry, Ontario, Canada) – Team Hindle Exhaust Systems had an incredible weekend of racing, including Pro Superbike rider Alex Welsh qualifying on pole position and a second place finish, and Pro Sportbike rider Ben Young finishing in third and second place.

 

Welsh, who rode a Hindle Exhaust Yahama YZF-R1M, took the pole positon during Superbike qualifying Saturday morning. The Saturday Superbike Race 1 (Round 6) started off very well, but a strange front end crash coming out of corner 3 ended the day. The team was able to put the bike back together and be ready for Sunday morning’s practice. During Race 2 (Round 7), Alex lead the opening lap and continued the battle for first between Szoke, Riedmann and Christie (who unfortunately crashed in corner 8 on lap 7). Riedmann led for the beginning of the last lap, then went wide heading into corner 8 where Szoke and Welsh were able to sneak by. Szoke finished in first, followed by Welsh in second by a small 0.402 second gap and Riedmann in third.

“It’s essentially a stock bike and I’m a washed up motorcycle racer”, joked Alex Welsh on the podium. Welsh’s Yamaha YZF-R1M had a completely stock motor, stock front forks, and stock rear shocks. It had a stock ECU, which was reflashed. The team added race bodywork, rear sets, clip-ons, a Brembo master cylinder and an ultra lightweight Hindle Exhaust stainless steel 3/4 exhaust system. “This bike is incredible straight out of the box,” said tuner Scott Cartier, who is also a designer and technician at Hindle Exhaust Systems. “With a few minor adjustments, you can turn this YZF-R1M into a full-blown superbike. It has a very strong engine with lots of useable power and a very refined chassis to make it onto the podium. We couldn’t be happier with the way the bike performed.”

Welsh and the entire team would like to thank: Hindle Exhaust Systems, Vass Performance Cycle, Parts Canada, Flexi-Glass Body Work and Drippin Wet Decals.

 

In the Hindle Exhaust Pro Sport Bike class, Ben Young, with only his second visit to the famous Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, secured a third place in Race 1 (Round 6) and a second place in Race 2 (Round 7) in the Hindle Exhaust Pro Sport Bike class aboard the Hindle Exhaust Yamaha YZF-R6. Young, who is a MotoAmerica Supersport class competitor with the RoadRace Factory team, was presented with the opportunity to come race Rounds 6 & 7 for the Hindle Exhaust team.

In Race 1, Young started in sixth on the start grid but was able to get a solid start off the line. Will Hornblower quickly took the lead however he was assessed a jump start penalty. Kenny Riedmann would quickly take over the lead with Hornblower running a close second. Young had moved up to third from his sixth place on the grid with his sights now on the two front-runners. Hornblower and Riedmann began an intense battle with Young ready to join the fray.  Jodi Christie would get by Young to take third and would eventually pass Hornblower for second. Riedmann took the victory with Christie in second, Hornblower third and Young would cross the line in fourth.  Hornblower’s jump start penalty would drop him back placing Young third on the podium earning him his first ever Hindle Exhaust Pro Sport Bike podium.

In Race 2 (Round 7), Young got another good start and quickly moved into third spot behind Christie and Riedmann who was in the lead. Riedmann, Young and Christie battled back and forth for the lead throughout each and every exciting lap. It would come down to an all-out drag race down the front straight with Young trying to make the most of the draft before the finish line.  Riedmann would get the win by a margin of victory of only .066 over Young who would earn the second step of the podium and the fastest lap of the race.

Young would like to thank Hindle Exhaust Systems, Tim Hortons – Sudbury, Scotbuild Developments, Bell Helmets and AXO.

In other news, Hindle Exhaust Systems’ very own designer and technician, Scott Cartier, participated in the inaugural Kawasaki Ninja 300 race on Friday. Race veteran Michael Taylor took the win, followed by Costa Mouzouris in second place, and Scott Cartier in third place. Starting in 2016, Kawasaki will sponsor the series for kitted Ninja 300s at every round of the MOPAR Canadian Superbike tour. Amateur competitors can utilize existing Ninja 300 machinery or build their own bikes using an affordable, limited edition “spec” kit sourced by Canadian Kawasaki Motors.
