With a pair of CSBK pro superbike races slated for this past weekend at Nova Scotia’s AMP, Trevor unloaded his GSX-R from his hauler Thursday morning with a keen sense of purpose. Seeking late race pace, Trevor spent the day on used tires then spooned on a set of fresh Bridgestones for Friday’s practice. As rain was expected for the afternoon’s qualifying session, it was likely lap times from the morning session would determine the grid.

With the urgency of a man looking for a front row start, Trevor tore into his hot lap, but a fraction too much throttle while exiting a corner caused the bike to slide under power then violently highside Trevor. Trevor landed on his hip and was then buffeted by his machine until one and all came to rest with a thud. As Trevor tried to stand, his leg buckled and he knew this was a crash with consequences: a broken femur and a broken hip. Ouch.

While Trevor was being fully outfitted with new hardware following Saturday morning surgery, the rest of the CSBK paddock was in a serious situation as flooding put the track under a foot of water and washed away bridges that lead into the facility. CSBK officials called the weekend a wash but teams were stranded until road crews made the necessary repairs. Meanwhile, Trevor’s fiancé Laura and her daughter Ava flew to Halifax to ferry Trevor home.

On Monday, with Laura behind the wheel, and with the freshly discharged patient groaning over every expansion joint, the travelling trio hit the highway for Ontario. Family. We all need them. Doubly so for motorcycle racers. Trevor would like thank all who came to his aid, including CSBK officials, AMP representatives, and the quick-thinking paramedic who eased Trevor’s pain while on the way to the hospital. And then there was the hospital staff itself: surgeons, staff, and physio all went above and beyond to help an injured rider. And never discount the merits of reaching out to those who suffer a mishap—Trevor is thankful for the texts, emails, and calls from those concerned about his wellbeing. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
