An undoubtedly positive Saturday draws to a close for Marc Marquez and Team Gresini MotoGP, with the #93 able to secure a front-row start in this morning’s #AustralianGP qualifying. He then finished second behind Jorge Martin in what was the fourth-last sprint race of the season.
Alex Marquez’s performance ended at halfway point as the #73 crashed unhurt after suffering an unexpected lack of feeling – following a very competitive opening day. He will have another chance for a good result tomorrow, despite having to perform a long-lap penalty.
2nd – MARC MARQUEZ #93
“I did a good job in what had been my weak point this year by finishing second in qualifying, and then I made a mistake in what had been my strong point so far, the start. Then I was able to put together a good comeback, but the mistake at the start remains. For such a perfectionist like I am, this is a bittersweet day, but the good news is that we’ll have another chance tomorrow. No one knows how the second half will be tomorrow, so we need to keep working in order to be ready for it.”
DNF – ALEX MARQUEZ #73
“I wasn’t feeling not as comfortable as yesterday already from the morning. Unfortunately here it’s easy for track conditions to change significantly and you need to be good at adapting quickly to these changes. The crash itself isn’t the key thing, it’s more about the feeling which, unlike today, was excellent yesterday. We’ll need a good warm up, even though the long-lap penalty will surely affect our race.”
