“When you’re going through hell, keep going.”
Winston Churchill
The Fast Company Suzuki GSX-R1000 backed by Parts Canada team had an opening Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship weekend that left rider Trevor Daley and tuner Scott Miller profoundly disappointed and, by equal measure, profoundly thankful. A freak accident in Saturday morning practice saw Jordan Szoke’s machine tumble over the trackside wall and rip through the Daley/Miller pit, the spinning motorcycle just missing team members by inches. It could have been catastrophic. Mercifully, it wasn’t, and, miraculously, no-one was injured—at least physically.
The incident, however, cast a pall over the weekend, and a tip-over at the hairpin while running with the lead group in Sunday’s final made the weekend one to forget. But in the never-say-die spirit of Sir Winston, the team rallied around the damaged machine, got it back on track, and at the checkered flag important championship points were gained.
Keep going. Indeed.
Full marks to Ben Young for his win and a special thank-you to the fans who filled the grandstand to near capacity for their support and well-wishes. We can’t wait to see everyone at Grand Bend to—belatedly—kick our season into high gear.
